|PLAYBACK CONTROL SYSTEMS
At Playback Innovations we offer a complete, state of the art playback control system for both screens content and direct playback to air using broadcast quality servers. Each purpose-built hardware control unit is capable of up to 48 synchronous playback channels that are easily managed by a single user.
We can, of course, begin with traditional video tapes and digitize their content in the standard real-time manner. In fact, we can control multiple VTRs simultaneously for more efficient use of time and resources. More importantly, however, our systems are designed and optimized for direct file-based ingest from both Avid and Final Cut Pro, simplifying the transition to a tapeless workflow.
Currently, productions are required to wait for the edit session to output to videotape, then “sneaker net” the tape to the playback operation and re-digitize into the playback server before being able to view the results.
File based systems in use today typically require media to be transcoded prior to playback, a process that is not only time consuming, but it is potentially detrimental to image quality. In contrast, the Pi system uses codecs that are native to both the NLE (i.e. Avid or Final Cut Pro), and the playback server. In this manner, content is delivered directly, faster than real time and unaffected by any encode/decode processes.
